Emma Steger is a self-taught maker who emphasises sustainability, reusing and reforming wood, often gleaned from unexpected sources. Emma’s process begins with what she finds.

While Emma continues to enjoy the creative challenge of making for her 'Off My Tree' homewares range, she finds the expectation of each piece to serve a function can feel limiting given her resources.

Her current work focuses on form rather than function, embracing the unpredictability of wood and celebrating imperfection and texture. She works in a free, unstructured way, experimenting with different finishes or leaving the wood in its raw, natural beauty.

Emma works intuitively, letting her mood shape each piece. This approach has resulted in two unique collections: Loud Women and The Quiet Ones.

Each series draws inspiration from the female form and the natural world, creating sculptural pieces meant to be held, explored, and felt.

Concerned about our impact on the environment, Emma is committed to leaving no trace. She works exclusively with reclaimed wood, each piece has a unique story and by adding no chemicals, plastics, or resin, she likes the idea of her pieces being eventually returned safely to nature.
